John C. Bogle, one of the giants of the modern securities industry and founder of the Vanguard mutual fund complex, will discuss the issues of corporate responsibility and investor protection on the campus of St. Anselms College in Manchester, NH, on September 21.
Mr. Bogle, creator of the index mutual fund and author of five books on investing and mutual funds, will be interviewed by Myron Kandel, one of the nation's best-known financial journalists, for a program to be shown on New Hampshire Public Television.
The program, titled “More than Money with Myron Kandel,” will be part of a series of high-profile public forums conducted by The Initiative for Corporate Responsibility and Investor Protection, based in Concord. Mr. Kandel, one of the founders of CNN and its financial editor and economic commentator for 25 years, is president of The Initiative.
Mr. Bogle, named by Time magazine in 2004 as one of the world's most powerful and influential people, created Vanguard in 1974 and served as its chief executive and then senior chairman for more than a quarter-century. The company now comprises more than 120 mutual funds with assets totaling $1 trillion. He has been an outspoken advocate for the individual investor and the need for ethical corporate standards.
Before helping launch CNN in 1980, Mr. Kandel was the financial editor of three newspapers, a foreign correspondent, a syndicated columnist and the editor of the nation's largest daily legal newspaper. In addition to heading The Initiative, he provides a monthly commentary for the Public Broadcasting System's program “Nightly Business Report.”
His interview with Mr. Bogle will be taped live before an audience of students, faculty and the general public at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm's. The televised event will be followed by a question-and-answer session between the audience and Mr. Bogle and Mr. Kandel.
